The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have been playing games against each other for over 100 years.
The first big game between the two teams was in 1904 when the Red Sox beat the Yankees to win the American League Pennant.
The real story of the rivalry begins with the selling of Babe Ruth from the Red Sox to the Yankees. Here we have the start of the curse that keeps the Red Sox from winning a World Series until 2004.
Throughout the years we have seen numerous games that decide pennants. There have been many bean palls and clearing of the dugout.
As television became more popular the Yankees and Red Sox games have been played nationally more than any other rivalry.
It has been recent years though that allows this rivalry stand up above the rest. With the Yankees owning the 90′s and then the 2000′s is where the Red Sox finally strike back.
On the way to their title in 2004 the Red Sox faced a 3-0 deficit in the ALCS only to become the first team ever to come back and win. The Red Sox then added another World Series victory in 2007.
The Yankees have struck again with winning the free agency battle of Mark Teixeira and then winning another World Series.
As all great rivalries the blows keep getting dealt.
