Roger Clemens: Hall of Fame or Banned?

Whether or not Roger Clemens should be a Hall of Famer comes down to where you stand on the issue of performance enhancing drugs in the sport of Baseball. If you believe that anyone who has ever been accused of taking PED’s doesn’t deserve a nod than Roger Clemens election to the Hall of Fame is a mute point. On the other hand, if you believe that everyone in Clemens’ era was taking them and that his record speaks for itself, well, you would more than likely like to see him in the Hall of Fame. While the so called “smoking gun” has never been produced to show that Clemens took PED’s, as with Bonds and others in his era, there seems to be enough evidence to at least prove him guilty in the court of public opinion.

The truth is, Clemens was one of the most dominate pitchers in his era. He won more Cy Young Awards (7) than anyone in Major League, and is in the Top 10 all time in win’s. Yet, Clemens is looking at a real possibility of not making the Hall of Fame. Baseball writers are not a very forgiving bunch, especially when it comes to so called “cheating” in baseball. With that said, with many stars in his era being proven as “juicers”, doesn’t it just show how dominate of a pitcher he really was?
